Rainey was the first man in history to hunt lions on horseback with hounds. He drove an ambulance on the Western Front in WWI. He lassoed a polar bear solo in the Arctic. His wildlife films played in Hollywood. His name is on the gates of the Bronx Zoo and on a 26,000-acre Audubon wildlife sanctuary in Louisiana. William Faulkner wrote him into American literature. W.C. Handy brought his band here by Pullman car.
